Jujutsu Kaisen: All major character deaths explained

The 38 main characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, a grim Shonen manga series filled with many deaths, are listed here.

Jujutsu Kaisen, even within the Shonen series, is well-known for its graphic narrative. The universe of the manga and anime series is one in which accumulated bad emotions give rise to cursed spirits that pose a threat to public safety. In addition to guiding new trainees to do the same, jujutsu sorcerers put their lives in danger to deal with those curses.

However, because curses will always exist as long as people do, the fight against them will never stop. In addition, some curse users oppose sorcerers, as if that weren't enough. As a result, the Jujutsu community has endured and still endures numerous casualties throughout the years.

The manga is nearing its end and has a good number of tragedies, even if the anime is only focused on the third season. As the sorcerers battle the baddies, the number just continues rising. The 38 characters in Jujutsu Kaisen who have passed away thus far are listed below. Note: There are significant manga and anime spoilers in this page.

1. Wasuke Itadori

Itador's grandpa, Wasuke, was first shown at the start of the show. In Jujutsu Kaisen, he also happens to be the first character to die. Yuji was raised by Wasuke while his parents were absent. The small child said that Wasuke treated him more like a father. He asked Yuji to assist others so he wouldn't feel alone when he passed away before he passed away due to old age.

2. Tadashi Okazaki

At the Eishu Juvenile Detention Center, Tadashi, a criminal, was serving his time. He drove without a license, ran over a small girl, and killed her. He was also among the select few who witnessed the airborne transformation of the cursed womb. Tadashi and other employees perished as a result of the curse's maturity. Yuji planned to save Tadashi after hearing his mother weep for him, but by that time, he had passed away.

3. Nagi Yoshino

Junpei's mother, Nagi, was his sole relative. She wasn't like other parents who make their kids do things just because they say to. She believes in her kid and supports him in doing what he feels is right, even if she knows he is skipping school. Nagi was slain by a random cursed spirit, but Mahito was really planning to use Junpei as a tool. Mahito only allowed the curse to infiltrate Nagi's home by leaving Sukuna's finger there.

4. Junpei Yoshino

Junpei was a regular student at the school before she met Mahito and started using curses. Mahito used him as a toy and enjoyed manipulating him. To push Junpei over the brink, he even killed her mother. Since Yuji and Junpei were already acquainted at that point, the former went to save the latter. But Mahito assassinated Junpei in front of Yuji, transforming him into a transfigured human. Yuji harbored a deep-seated animosity for Mahito up to that point.

5. Kechizu

Kechizu, the younger brother of Eso and Choso, was one of the Death Paintings. He was weaker than his siblings but yet possessed the Rot and Decay skills. Alongside Eso, he battled Yuji, Nobara, and Megumi. He was defeated by Yuji and Nobara, and the latter's method quickly destroyed the cursed womb.

6. Eso

Kechizu and Choso's middle brother was named Eso. He was stronger and had a humanoid shape, unlike Kechizu. Eso has several methods in addition to Rot and Decay. The brothers' belief that they were cursed spirits led Yuji and Nobara to fight them, although this proved to be untrue shortly after. Yuji felt terrible for Eso after witnessing her weep over Kechizu's passing, but he still had to do his task. Yuji assisted Nobara in killing Eso as he fled the area.

7. Suguru Geto

One of the most well-known Jujutsu Kaisen characters, Suguru passed away in the prequel film. After learning more about his past, followers developed a deep affection for the vicious adversary who had first been presented. Gojo suffered much after Suguru betrayed him, and no one could ever truly replace him in his life. After Suguru's defeat by Yuta, he was mortally wounded, and Gojo delivered the last blow.

8. Rika Orimo

Yuta's childhood friend Rika and she made a vow to get married when they grew up. But at eleven years old, Rika lost her life in an automobile accident. Rika became a special-grade phantom as a result of Yuta's incapacity to accept her death due to his huge cursed energy. Before Yuta was able to eventually save her from his curse, she remained by his side for years. Yuta still receives assistance from the cursed ghost of Rika, even after her soul has departed to the afterlife.

9. Riko Amanai

In order to keep the barriers in place, Riko, a Star Plasma Vessel, was meant to fuse with Master Tengen. The immortality of Master Tengen isn't flawless because every few millennia they would need a new vessel. But utilizing other bodies was something that many non-sorcerers didn't want Master Tengen to be "tainted" with. Even with Geto and Gojo at her side, assassin Toji Fushiguro ultimately manages to assassinate Riko.

10. Misato Kuroi

Since Riko was four years old, Misato Kuroi has taken care of him. Riko's sole family was Misato because her parents passed away a long time ago. Despite her ability to sense curses and her passably good talents, she was not a combatant and could not keep the little girl safe. Following Riko's passing, Shiu Kong escorted Misato away. Only hints of her death were made, and until later in the series, there was no confirmation.

11. Toji Fushiguro

Despite Toji's membership in the Zenin Clan, they never embraced him since he lacked cursed energy. He possessed a physique confined by heaven and was one of the strongest characters in the series. Toji defeated even sorcerers of the highest caliber thanks to his superhuman abilities and enhanced five senses. Gojo utilized the Reverse Cursed Technique for the first time to slay the Sorcerer Killer after suffering deadly injuries from Toji.

12. Yu Haibara

Yu Haibara was a junior of Geto and Gojo and a classmate of Kento Nanami. When Geto was still unable to move on from Riko's death, a year later, Haibara and Nanami were sent on a mission to destroy a Grade 2 curse. When they arrive, they discover that it was in fact a local god with strength comparable to a Grade 1. Haibara died because the curse was too strong for untrained sorcerers. Gojo went there to break the curse after the incident.

13. Kokichi Muta (Mechamaru)

The first character to pass away in the Jujutsu Kaisen Shibuya Incident storyline was Kokichi Muta. In order for him to obtain a regular body through idle transfiguration, he assisted Mahito and his colleagues in infiltrating the Jujutsu School. Kokichi's body was severely confined by heaven, thus although he possessed a lot of cursed energy, it was weak. Just before the Shibuya Incident started, Mahito assassinated Kokichi after successfully obtaining a healthy corpse.

14. Hanami

Hanami was a special-grade cursed spirit that was unregistered and partnered with Mahito, Dagon, and Jogo. Hanami was instructed to keep Gojo in the same location with Jogo and Choso for twenty minutes so that Kenjaku could turn on the Prison Realm. Gojo was so enraged at the criminals' brutal killing of victims that he murdered Hanami with ease.

15. Ogami

Ogami, a curse user, joined forces with Kenjaku in order to seal Gojo. She longed to be free to commit crimes, but Gojo kept her bound. Ogami was able to use a departed person's corpse to call out their soul or corporeal form. After calling upon Toji, whom she was unable to subdue, she was murdered.

16. Dagon

Though Dagon barely reached adulthood during the Shibuya Incident arc, he was already considerably older in the manga. Even with their combined might, Nanami, Naobito, Maki, and Megumi were unable to overcome Dagon's immense might. But Toji follows his instincts and enters the realm, killing him. Dagon suffered the price for his full disrespect for Toji, a person free of cursed energy.

17. Naobito Zenin

Naobito was fighting on the front lines of the Shibuya Incident as the chief of the Zenin Clan and a formidable sorcerer. He prevented Dagon from levitating, which allowed Toji to deliver the finishing blow and contributed significantly to Dagon's loss. However, Jogo arrived on the scene and set fire to the sorcerers who had already suffered injuries when Dagon's realm was closed. Naobito passed just a few days after the incident, while Nanami and Maki managed to survive despite suffering serious injuries.

18. Mimiko Hasaba

Suguru also took in Mimiko's twin sister, Nanako. He slaughtered all the villagers and took the two young girls with him after witnessing them being mistreated and held captive by their community. As curse users, the sisters aided Suguru in his "Night Parade of a Hundred Demons." Sukuna was enraged and, instead of killing Kenjaku as asked by Mimiko and Nanako, blew out Mimiko's head.

19. Nanako Hasaba

Following Mimiko's death, Nanako made an effort to harm Sukuna. Her head, nevertheless, is sliced in two in the next instant. Sukuna was irritated with the sisters because they believed they could use their knowledge of the final finger's placement to gain control over him by requesting a favor in exchange. These two characters in Jujutsu Kaisen had a terribly sad death, even though all they wanted was to release Geto's body from Kenjaku.

20. Jogo

Jogo made Yuji eat ten of Sukuna's fingers—a total of fifteen—by force. While he had intended to win Sukuna over to their cause, she chose to focus on the curse. Although the battle was brief, Sukuna used it as a chance to level much of Shibuya. When the fight was ended, Sukuna finally gave Jogo the recognition he so much needed. Jogo wept and expired upon hearing Sukuna refer to him as "strong."

21. Haruta Shigemo

As a curse user, Haruta was associated with Kenjaku. He took offense during the Sister School Exchange Event and went back to Shibuya, where he began fighting sorcerers and their goons. Nanami mercilessly thrashed Haruta, yet he survived and went on to murder Megumi. But before he could do it, Sukuna intervened, destroying Shibuya and severing Haruto in two vertically.

22. Kento Nanami

Nanami was a beloved Jujutsu Kaisen character, so her death was surprising in the extreme—especially considering how cruel it was. Following his injury in Dagon's domain, Jogo fully burns Nanami's body. He kills the transmuted humans in Shibuya despite those deadly wounds, nevertheless, until he runs across Mahito. Nanami's upper torso is easily blown apart by the curse. Yuji is even more traumatized and depressed after the sorcerer passes away in front of him.

23. Nobara Kugisaki (unconfirmed)

When Nobara and Mahito meet paths in the Shibuya Incident Arc, Nobara is mortally injured. Although there is little prospect of her surviving, Arata Nitta attempts to save her by stopping the bleeding. But since then, the show has never disclosed her status, leading some fans to speculate that she may have passed away. In chapter 210, Yuji and Megumi allude to their plan to prevent Kurusu from succeeding Nobara, implying that she has passed away.

24. Mahito

Mahito's character death in Jujutsu Kaisen is arguably the most gratifying of all. He was the epitome of wickedness and liked to play tricks on other people. He even took the lives of many beloved characters and earned it. Yuji was Mahito's natural opponent, hence Mahito finally lost to him. But before Yuji can break the curse, Kenjaku absorbs Geto with his talent.

25. Mai Zenin

The Zenin Clan planned Megumi, Mai, and Maki's deaths. Mai was severely hurt by the time Maki arrived at the clan. Maki and Mai are thrown into a pit since Maki was no match for Ogi. Instead of letting the sisters perish, Mai chooses to utilize what little energy she has left to make Maki a weapon. Since Mai and Maki are identical twins, the limitations on Maki's body were removed upon Mai's passing. To exact revenge on Mai, Maki decimated her whole tribe.

26. Ogi Zenin

Ogi always thought he was good enough to lead the clan, but the Zenins claimed that because his daughters were "weak," he was never able to do so. He happily seized the chance to murder his daughters since he had always loathed them. But Mai chooses to give herself up in order to help Maki build a strong sword that he uses to chop off Ogi's skull in half.

27. Chojuro Zenin

Chojuro was a minor figure who belonged to the Hei, the elite group of jujutsu sorcerers under the Zenin Family. Along with a few other members, he attempted to quell Maki's fury, but she also murdered him. Earth Arms used his natural ability to form two enormous stone arms and attacked Maki, holding her between his palms. But she managed to get out of it with ease.

28. Jinichi Zenin

Jinichi was a minor figure who belonged to the Hei, the elite group of jujutsu sorcerers under the Zenin Family. He was a Grade 1 sorcerer with a very devastating technique that allowed him to summon enormous fists that shot like missiles out of cursed energy. He tried his hardest to murder Maki while using Ranta as a diversion, but ultimately failed. Maki mercilessly chopped off his head and flung it into the water.

29. Ranta Zenin

Ranta was a minor character who belonged to the Hei, the elite group of jujutsu sorcerers under the Zenin Family. Ranta gave himself up during Maki's attack on the clan members so that Jinichi may have a chance to murder her. The two, nevertheless, were no match for her. Upon seeing Jinichi's loss, Ranta drew his last breath and passed away smiling, having done his job.

30. Naoya Zenin

Naoya was the youngest son of the clan leader, Naobito Zenin. He thought of himself as the legitimate successor to the Zenin Clan because of his abilities. Jinichi challenged Maki but ultimately lost after witnessing her toss his head into the sea. Maki's mother killed him with an ordinary knife even though she was victorious. Naoya ultimately lost to Maki and Noritoshi Kamo because he returned as a vengeful ghost rather than dying from cursed energy.

31. Masamichi Yaga

Yaga was one of the few characters in Jujutsu Kaisen who was introduced in the early chapters, hence his death was unexpected. Furthermore, Yoshinobu Gakuganji, with whom Yaga had a great relationship, assassinated him. But Gakuganji was only doing what the higher-ups told him, using Gojo's absence as an excuse to accuse Yaga of plotting with Geto.

32. Yuki Tsukumo

Yuki is a special-grade sorceress and one of the greatest female characters in Jujutsu Kaisen. As such, her passing was much mourned by the Jujutsu community. While the others continued with their plot to unseal Gojo, she stayed behind with Choso to guard Master Tengen. Yuki was no match for Kenjaku, even with Choso's assistance, and the latter died while the former managed to flee.

33. Tsumiki Fushiguro

Megumi's step-sister Tsumiki was unconscious because to an unidentified national enchantment. The series explains in the Culling Game Arc that the curse meant to train them as vessels to bring back the dead. Yorozu was given new life via Tsumiki's corpse. By that point, Sukuna had already assumed control of Megumi's body and had killed Tsumiki using the young sorcerer's method, sending the latter into an unending state of misery.

34. Satoru Gojo

Not very long ago, the death of a much-loved character in Jujutsu Kaisen caused the internet to go up. Gojo has played a significant role in the narrative from the start. After being trapped in the Shibuya Incident arc, he eventually made an appearance. He bravely battled the King of Curses during the fight of the strongest, but in the end, the personification of catastrophe proved too strong for him.

35. Hajime Kashimo

During the Culling Game, Hajime, an old curse user, came back to life. He changed sides and joined the sorcerers in the expectation of facing Sukuna after losing to Hakari. Following Gojo's defeat by the King of Curses, Kashimo immediately entered the battleground. Kashimo divulged his technique, which is cursed by a god. But too easily was even the God of Lightning vanquished.

36. Iori Hazenoki

Among the reborn sorcerers was Iori. He formed an alliance with Reggie Star's organization, which functions as the Culling Game Arc's antagonists. The point of view moved to Kenjaku in Chapter 239 while the antagonist was destroying the Culling Game participants in order to carry out his scheme. Iori Hazenoki was a victim of Kenjaku's. Takaba arrives on the scene following Iori's demise.

37. Fumihiko Takaba

Throughout the whole series, Takaba was one of the most powerful characters. But even he couldn't compete with the clever old curse user. The most humorous brawl broke out between Takaba and Kenjaku, but it ended with the terrible death of the former. The comic who turned sorcerer was only a prop to make room for Yuta's ambush. Although Yuta was able to decapitate Geto's body, Kenjaku's strategy is still a mystery.

38. Hiromi Higuruma

Higuruma entered the conflict with the most powerful. In Chapter 247, he passes away and leaves Yuji as his executor. Because of Higuruma's death and Nanami's, Yuji is forced to go through the same ordeal. Moreover, he could be the only individual to get Sukuna's recognition of his extraordinary skill after Gojo. Unfortunately, Higuruma had made up his mind to give himself up before the fight even started.

39. Choso

In Chapter 259, Choso perishes while defending Yuji from the Divine Flames of Sukuna. Despite being presented as an adversary at first, Choso rapidly shifts his allegiance upon discovering Yuji is actually his younger brother. Choso's siblings occupied the center of his entire universe. He thanked Yuji for being his younger brother and did not think twice about dying for him.
